Tesco Double The Difference
Tesco Double the Difference is a little known policy. Did you know that if Tesco charges you more for your items than the price on the shelf that you are entitled to claim back double the difference via customer services? Mistakes happen so always worth checking your till receipts.
I recently purchased a melon from Tesco near Cambridge. I noticed that it scanned through at £1.50 whereas the shelf price was £1.20 so I went to customer services to sort it out. Its only 30p overcharge but I can’t afford to be throwing money away so I wanted to get it sorted. I was expecting it to be a lot more hassle than it was.
Wonderful customer service
The lady at customer services checked my item and my receipt then immediately refunded the entire £1.50 making my melon completely free. I was only expecting 60p back but would have been happy with just the 30p. So to get it entirely refunded was a wonderfully kind gesture and very much appreciated.
So how do I claim my refund?
If your till receipt doesn’t match the price shown on the shelf. Take the item and your receipt to customer services. Explain that the shelf price was different and ask for a refund. Customer services should quickly get the shelf price checked then automatically give you double the difference back. For example if your item scanned at £1.50 but should have been £1 you will get your 50p refund doubled to £1. If your refund is less than you were expecting then make sure to remind them of the Tesco Double the Difference policy.
High value items
Always be especially careful to check the prices when you purchase high value items from Tesco. If there is a mistake made the refund due could be quite substantial.
